The B.A. in Languages enables a student to specialize in two foreign languages through the acquisition of language competencies, as well as exposure to the theoretical basis and structure of language itself (linguistics), and the study of the cultural and literary practices, which the target languages reflect and enact.  Students interested in a single language concentration should see individual language program listings.

Major Requirements

1. Lower-division requirements (16 units plus language proficiency)
   1. Elementary and intermediate courses in languages one and two as required.
   2. LING 20
   3. CPLT 001 or CPLT 001W, CPLT 002
2. Upper-division requirements (64 units)
   1. Language one
      1. Sixteen (16) units in language
      2. Twelve (12) units in literature and culture
   2. Language two
      1. Twelve (12) units in language
      2. Eight (8) units in literature and culture
   3. Four (4) units: LING 111
   4. Four (4) units: one other course in Linguistics
   5. Four (4) units: CPLT 193, Senior Capstone Seminar (CPLT 196 strongly recommended but not required)
