The Russian Studies major has been developed for students who are interested in Russian language and literature, Russian history and civilization.

Individual major programs are coordinated with the students’ particular interests.  In consultation with the advisor, each student plans a coherent program of courses to meet the requirements for the major.  Normally, students’ programs are submitted for approval no later than the beginning of their junior year.

Major Requirements

1. Lower-division requirements
   1. Russian 001 through 004 or the equivalent proficiency. Students may pass out of some or all of the lower-division language courses for the Russian major through previous coursework or by taking a language proficiency exam
   2. Eight (8) units: CPLT 001 or CPLT 001W, CPLT 002
2. Upper-division requirements
   1. Twelve (12) units in language from RUSN 101 (E-Z), RUSN 102 (E-Z), RUSN 120 (E-Z), RUSN 103
   2. Twelve (12) units in literature from RUSN 109A, RUSN 109B, RUSN 109C
   3. Eight (8) units in civilization from EUR 111A, EUR 111B, EUR 111C
   4. Four (4) units: CPLT 193, Senior Capstone Seminar (CPLT 196 strongly recommended but not required)
